I have been coming to Scotland since 1943 to visit family who lived in the station cottage at the Achnacloich railway halt. There were only oil lamps for light, coal for heat and gas for cooking. Uncle Angus had a battery radio and used to cycle into Connel Bridge with the lead accumulator battery to get it charged up for the radio. And as a small child I well remember his scary ghost stories, told by candle or oil lamps flickering in the gloom. Over the years the roads have improved, at one time they were narrow and winding with passing places for overtaking and allowing oncoming traffic to pass. Now you need to be well up into the North to find these roads, but they are still some, all you have to remember is take your time and if possible try to reach a passing place at the same time as approaching traffic." It saves stopping". Also let traffic behind get past using the passing places. But it is the SPACE.! and room to breath that I love most. Check out all that's on offer on this web site. Please be patient the site is still under construction. |
